The Green Cup Challenge™

Note: Green Schools Alliance is taking a short break from administering the Green Cup Challenge™ to focus efforts on START. In the meantime, we encourage GSA members to use the instructions and worksheet templates to run the competition internally or with neighboring schools!

During the 4-week Energy Challenge students, teachers and staff discover they have the power to save energy in their schools, and that their actions can translate into financial savings for their school, and positive change for the world.

On average, participating schools have seen a 5-10% reduction in electricity use, and approximately 60% persistence in energy savings from year to year, with a lifetime cumulative reduction of >40,000 kWh/each school.

During the 4-week Recycle Challenge, schools compete for Bin Points by "recycling right" - improving recycling compliance rates and decreasing contamination.*

*Bonus Points for additional waste reduction efforts such as composting or paperless communications. Weekly bin surveys provide instant feedback on your recycling efforts - no weighing required!

The Green Cup Video Challenge showcases students’ talents and environmental passions and creates awareness about lowering energy use, recycling, reducing waste, and rethinking consumption.

OnAir Schools is a STEM-aligned initiative that inspires preK-12 students to take the lead on classroom challenges to reduce traffic and air pollution at their school.

Using a digital platform to plan, implement and measure, students can engage their entire school community in taking actions that help save the air.

OnAir will be back soon!
